Do activity 1a. Ask the students to read the questions and talk about them. Maybe the teacher can explain what a soap opera is. A soap opera is a drama, typically performed as a serial on daytime television or radio, characterized by stock characters and situations sentimentality, and melodrama.

What are some things that happen on soap operas?
Show students several soap operas.

Show some pictures to teach reported speech Simple past tense
He said he wanted to be the best student in his class.
He said he would try his best to improve his English.

He said he could give these flowers to his mother !

1b. First Listen to the tape about Young Lives and number the pictures. Check answers.
Then listen again. Listen and write T or F for each statement.

Ask several Ss what they are going to be when they grow up.Write their sentences on the Bb.
T : What did he /she say ?
Ss: He/She said he/she was going to play basketball after school .
Repeat this process with the other sentences on the Bb .
Step2. Revision
Show some pictures to ask : What did he/she say ?
For example : He said“I am going to be a cook.”
T: What did he say ?
Ss: He said (that) he was going to be a cook.
Repeat this process with the otherpictures
Step3 Practice
Divide the group into four, Let students ask and answer some questions about their hobbies or dreams .then one student pretend not to hear,so he can ask: What did he say ?
 
Step4. Listening (work on 2a,2b)
1.       Point out the requests of the listening task. Let Ss circle true or false for each statement.
2.       Play the recording twice .The first time ,Ss circle circle true or false for each statement. The second time ,circle the correct answers.
3.       Check the answers
