                                                    Lesson plan interpretation

Go for it Unit 12 Period 1
Hello, everybody. It’s my honor to show you my interpretation here today. My topic is Travel Journal taken from NSEFC B1, unit 3. I’ll explain how to teach and why do so as following 5 aspects: the analysis of the teaching material, something about the students, teaching methods and teaching aids, teaching procedures and blackboard design.
Part 1. Understanding of teaching material
This period is about some school subjects and students learn to talk about their favorite subjects and give reasons.
1)      Teaching aims
Through the lesson, the students are required to acquire some skills of speaking, such as talking about their favorite subjects and give reasons by using some description words. Meantime, it is necessary for them to improve listening skills like how to grasp key points while listening. So I make out the following aims.
a) Knowledge objectives
Students master the school subjects, like: science, math, history, biology and so on. Also, they should acquire the sentence structure: What’s your/his/her favorite …? Why do you like it? Because…
b) Ability objectives
 I’ll show them how to grasp the important information correctly and quickly as well as to enhance their speaking ability. It will help them know how to use the new words and phrases.
c) Moral objectives
Students are learning to know though some subjects are boring and difficult, as long as they try to learn them, they can learn them well. And help them know the importance of all the subjects.
2)      Teaching important points
a.       Students are learning to describe their preferences and give reasons by using the sentence structure: What’s your/his/her favorite..? My/Her/His favorite… is …. Why …Because…
b.       Students learn to maintain some listening skills
3)      Teaching difficult points
a. Help students know how to correctly use the personal pronouns like “my/his /her favorite…”
b. Help students grasp the pronunciation of “math”, “subject” and the sentence structure: What’s your/his/her favorite..? My/Her/His favorite… is …. Why …Because…
 
Part 2 .Something about students
Lots of students know how to say their likes and dislikes by using: I like… I don’t like… But they can’t use “favorite” correctly. And they also have difficulty in giving reasons. This class is to help them describe their preferences correctly and use the personal pronouns properly. Students from Grade 7 are also active to describe their opinions but sometimes they may be shy and I will encourage them and give them more chances to express their ideas.
 
Part 3. Teaching methods and teaching aids
Teaching methods:
a.       repeat and imitate
b.       survey and report
 
Teaching aids:
a) some Christmas cards and a Christmas hat
b) a tape-recorder
c) a computer and courseware
Part4. Teaching procedures
Let’s move to the most important part—my teaching procedure, I divide them into following steps: Step 1. Lead-in
In order to arouse student’s interest, I’ll use computer to show them a video of Christmas father. Then I will ask them: what can he do? For that, they learned “can” in Unit 10. I want them to revise some language points. In the meantime, I want to lead in my class. I say I can sing and sing a song for them to make them feel that I am friendly. After that I will say I like singing so I like music. (Show a music book on ppt). ask some students: do you like music? And do you like English, Chinese? Then I show these are school subjects. Do you know other subjects? I will spend two minutes here.
                                                                
Step 2. Words presentation
Students can say any subjects they know, and I will also encourage them to say more. After that, I show some pictures of different subjects and teach some new words and let them repeat.                                           It will cost me 5 minutes.
 
Step 3. Show time
In this step, I want to arouse students’ interest, and make them more active. (Before the class, I ask students to take their books wit them) I ask them to show their books according to my instructions. And I also want to know whether they can pronounce these words correctly, so I will ask them to say: This is my …book. This step will cost me 2 minutes.
                                                               
Step 4. Pair work
Now it’s time for them to do pair work. I take out one student’s books and ask: there are so many subjects, and what’s your favorite subject? Students will answer this question. I will ask two more students, and then let them ask next students. By doing this, I can show the sentence: What’s your favorite subject? During pair work, I will ask students: What’s his/her favorite subject? I want to ensure that all the students are listening carefully to others and it can enhance their listening ability, too. Then I write down: “her, his” before favorite. After 2minutes, I will let them ask their partner and then tell us what their favorite subjects are. This is for them to use the declarative sentence. It will take 4 minutes.
                                                      
Step 5. Listening
Here comes a listening. Some words are difficult for them to listen. So I will make some blanks on ppt. And let them listen and repeat for twice. Then I will tell them how to listen and how to pronounce and pay attention to the stress and liaison. Also four minutes will be spent here.

Step 6. Sentence presentation
Now I will talk about my favorite subject. I say: I like English best. Do you know why? On one hand, I present “Why and because”, on the other hand I want them to say more. Students from Grade 7 are very interested in teachers’ life and they are wondering why teacher like … So I want them to give me different opinions through brain-storming. After then I will show some reasons for them, such as learn about English history, and speak English well and so on. These phrases are very important in last unit. I want them to combine the new points with what they learned before. Then I will show some description words and let them make dialogues. This step will cost me 8 minutes.
                                                          
Step 7. listening 
Here is a very easy listening. I only let them listen and repeat. It takes only 3 minutes.            
                                                               
Step 8 Survey and report
For fear that they have grasped all the sentence structure and language points of this class. I want them to talk about more things, such as their favorite food, sports and animals. So I design a survey for them. I want them to talk about more references and some useful words are given. 5 minutes are needed here. After that, they are acquired to do a report and show their results. Through four different topics, students can learn more and say more. This step is about 10 minutes.
                                                            
Step 9 Consolidation and homework
Then I will teach them some Christmas words because today is Christmas Day. And after that help them revise the language points we learned this lesson. And tell them the importance of learning all the subjects well. Last minute is to assign homework. Let them know their classmates’ different references and to finish workbook.
